Wednesday-4 mile trail run (37min), 2:00 plank
So Disneyland was great but the running in California was amazing! I put some major miles on my running shoes. It was epic.
The kids put some major miles on their shovels....er, hands.
They played until they could no longer hold their head up.
I played until I could justify eating all the things!
There is so many places to eat in California it's hard to choose where to start.
So I started with the first bakery I could walk to :-)
Any bakery that mounds frosting on top of their cupcakes using an ice cream scoop deserves to be checked out.
The nice lady at the Baguetier told me that they try to use organic ingredients whenever possible and always buy local, all natural ingredients for their baked goods.
That's nice to know but I don't go into a bakery just because it is organic. I probably should but....
Hey look a buttery quiche and a muffin!
Like I was saying, this bakery is within walking distance from Huntington beach and full of everything from croissants and cookies to cupcakes and quiches.
Their bacon, cheddar and leek quiche was so horrible I couldn't eat it. Haha
It was so good I didn't share. Not kidding.
The banana nut muffin was good but not amazing. I found it to be a little dry for a banana muffin. Maybe it was a bit over baked but I loved the little extra bits of crunchy, sugary goodness on top.
I didn't get a cupcake, gasp!
I visited at 8am with plans of returning later for a cupcake but it never happened. Sugar Coated fail.
Don't worry I'm about to redeem myself in 3, 2, 1......
BAM! Bubba Sweets was right on the way to the beach and I passed it every morning so I had to stop in.
This place was adorable. Sorry for the blurry pics I was so excited!
The lady behind the counter was so, so kind. She told us about every cupcake, answered all our questions, was super patient with my indecisiveness and gave all the kiddies a cakepop. Awesome.
I got the Adam Sandler by the way.
Aaaaand a few others. Back row? Right side?(weird angle)-PMS cure(chocolate, salted caramel), Oreo, Lemon, Adam Sandler(banana, caramel, bacon).
Front row or Left side, however your brain works- Cookie Monster, Chocolate peanut butter(it was named after someone but can't remember), Katy Perry(chocolate, strawberry), S'mores.
Who doesn't love swirly frosting? So fun. And delicious.
Most of their cupcakes are filled which is A-OK with me. I will never turn my nose up at a cookie inside of a cupcake. Never.
Extra frosting, fudge, or marshmallow in the middle of a cupcake is never a bad thing. Again. Never.
The lighting in the house we rented was horrible for taking food picks, I plan to write the home owners a letter. Unacceptable. ;-)
Bubba Sweets left my heart aching for more. All their cupcakes were amazing. The cake was moist and the frosting, perfect!
Speaking of frosting, Bubba's does it right. Their frosting's are all unique. They don't just flavor a basic buttercream to suit different cakes, they make completely different frosting's. There's a homemade marshmallow one, a super light, silky, almost coolwhip like strawberry one, an amazing peanut butter frosting and their buttercream is incredible.
Bubba Sweet's rocked my socks. If those cupcakes were a boy I'd marry him. Just kidding honey.
I wish I could say that I ate lush healthy salads the rest of the week but I can't.
I wish I could say that what I'm about to tell you embarrasses me, but it doesn't.
I ate here.
In one day.
There's no shame in my game.
Waffle sandwiches people.
Let that marinate a bit.
Breakfast was Green Eggs and Ham. Grilled ham, egg, Tillamook cheddar, and arugula pesto on a waffle. Genius!
Not just any chicken and waffles though, chili honey chicken with a cider slaw.
I doctored mine up with a little Sriracha, I can't help myself, and maple syrup. Again, I can't help myself. It was amazing.
Before we go any further I need you to know that I had help with what went down for dessert.
A chocolate filled Liege and a S'mores waffle.
Is it getting hot in here?
Goooodness, this should be illegal and if it's not then for Pete's sake share the recipe or ship them directly to my house.
I'm flat out embarrassed I didn't think to sandwich marshmallows and chocolate in between a Belgium waffle. Clearly there is someone much more worthy of the sugar coated title than me. I tip my hat.
Anyone know what a Liege is? Me neither, but from what I gather, its what heaven would taste like if you dipped it in melty dark chocolate.
It's a big deal.
That about sums up what I ate in Cali.... except for this one time I stopped by an interesting grocery store that sold Fresh War Bat for 99 cents.
Anyone know what that is?
FYI- I didn't eat it. I did order a wrap thingy<---pretty sure that's what it's called. It was incredible.
