Splash and Dash

Workout- Thursday-Splash and Dash, 1500m swim, 3.2mile run (59min, 50sec)
Friday- 16miles (54min) Easy spin to shake out the legs.

Let's talk about the Splash and Dash.  It was an awesome night of fun, food and of course racing!
But before that.  We had to get her a wetsuit.  She had never done an open water swim before and was a tad nervous.
Friends talk other friends into trying new things that scare them.
I'm such a good friend.
Awwww, these babies are TIGHT!
I warned her trying on wetsuits was a workout.
She was a champ.  I didn't hear any swearing.
I picked up this can of spray lubricant.  Pure genius.  It makes the wetsuit go on and off a bit easier, it is super easy to spray on and the best part, no wetsuit hickeys or chaffing.  Lovely product.
I bet it would be awesome for anyone who chaffs on the run too.
Enough about lubricating and chaffing this is a family blog. :-)

The day was absolutely beautiful.  This time of year makes me happy.  The water temp was 67, it didn't feel so bad.  I was never cold.
If you would like some info on how to properly set up your transition; you have come to the wrong place.
This is how NOT to set up a transition.
We did manage to get it straighten out before the start but my transition time was still pretty slow.  We should have left it a mess.  I would have felt more at home that way.
Not that my house is a mess or anything.
It is.
Anyway.
JoDee and Danelle decided to give open water swimming a try.  Those girls have some guts.
I love racing.  The vibe at the start is always so lively and exciting.  Hanging out with other racers chit chatting about the sport you adore is awesome.
My swim went pretty well.  It took a bit to fall into my grove and I felt tired at first.  Once the race cleared out and I got into a good rhythm I felt great.  I am happy with where I'm at with my swimming.
My run went equally as well.  I eased into the run and picked up the pace each mile.  I hadn't been doing any sort of fast running so I was being very cautious.  My legs and knee have felt great and I would like to keep that way.
Here are my splits
Mile 1-8:45
Mile 2-8:29
Mile 3-7:50
I'll take that!  I didn't get my Garmin turned on until about .2 into the run that's why I don't have that last split.
My transition was horrible.  I didn't go into this thinking much about that and it showed.  Next time it will go more smoothly.
These two killed it!! Still giving the thumbs up after their first open water swim, wetsuit wrangling and a 5K!
Rock on girls!  You are amazing.
Mark my words; these two will be kicking my butt in triathlons in no time.
All of us girls kicked some booty yesterday.  I am so proud of them all.
Racing with friends makes my heart smile.

So does eating Smashburger with friends.  I was practically glowing I was so happy.
I just got butterflies looking at this picture.
It doesn't get much better than this.
Oh wait! Yes it does.  Jocelyn made cupcakes!
It was a fairy tale dream.
Great race, excellent friends, awesome burger, fried pickles, beer, AND cupcakes.
Somebody pinch me.
