Showers of torture and a good burger

Workout- 30min (3.2miles) run, 2300m swim  My run was easy peasy. My swim is still outta shorts, I am definitely gonna see if floaties are race legal.  I was struggling along thinking about how horrible my swim stroke feels then this popped into my head....

I inhaled water laughing. My brain is funny.  Pick an apple, put it in your pocket, pick an apple put it in your pocket. That is totally how I learned back in the day.

I try to shower at the gym when I'm there cause you never know when I will get one once I walk in the door at home, people tend to talk to me more when I'm not a sweaty, stink bomb.

It's quite at the gym, ahhhh. The showers suck there, boooo. The shower heads, I think, where intended to be used on the end of a fire hose.

Spigot of torture!

They have great water pressure at the gym so the stream coming off that baby could take the paint of your car.

I dare ya to stick you face in that.

I know we are stinky, sweaty athletes but a good wash with soap should take care of it, we don't need to be pressure washed (ok, maybe I do sometimes).

I try to look on the bright side. When times get tough for me and I really need to dig deep, I will recall these morning showers. I will know I'm tough as nails cause I shower at LA Fitness!!

Lunch today was at Paradise Bakery. I love anyplace that gives you a big cookie with your lunch.

Score!

Dinner was California meatloaf turkey burgers (not sure why they are called that), potato salad and green beans.

There should be a giant yummy tomato on there
but it died in this heat. grrrrr

California Meatloaf Turkey Burgers
Adapted from Cook and Freeze cookbook
makes 12 servings (eat some, freeze some)

2 packages (20oz) ground turkey (93 percent lean)
2 cups shredded reduced fat sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup finely chopped red onion
1/2 cup finely chopped pitted green olives
4 Tbl tomato paste
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finally chopped
2 tsp salt
1/4 ground pepper

Additional ingredients: whole wheat hamburger buns, tomato, red onion slices, lettuce and pickles

In a large bowl, mix all ingredients until combined and shape into 12 patties. Cook the number of patties you will be using. You can cook them on an oiled grill, broiler, skillet, or toaster oven. Cook until center reaches 170 degrees. Serve on toasted whole wheat buns, with tomato, red onion, lettuce and pickles.

Freeze the remaining patties to be made later.

To defrost and serve:
Defrost burgers on a plate in the refrigerator for 3-4hrs then cook them anyway you prefer, oiled grill, broiler, skillet, or toaster oven, until the internal temp reaches 170 degrees.

Missy's Notes
Don't over mix the meat because your burgers will get a weird consistency, kinda mushy.
I froze my burgers on a cookie sheet 1st, until hard, then wrapped them individually and placed in a freezer bag.
You can substitute finely chopped red pepper for the jalapeno if your family doesn't want any spice or you can add two jalapenos if you want to take it up a notch. I used one and no one complained. I didn't really taste it to much though, I might do one and a half next time.
I cooked my burgers in my cast iron skillet and they turned out wonderful and moist.

Enjoy!!

  1. Hahaha! I spent most of yesterday's shower formulating an expose on our gym shower situation. Like "photo exhibit A: 5 long black hairs," day 1...day 5...day 12...still there. And the grout mold is becoming a pattern of sorts.

The turkey burgers sound yumm! The swim entrance cracks me up!
